"There but for the grace of God Go I..."

Why Cambodia?
Currently in Cambodia, most of the population lives in poverty. Many families do not have the financial means to feed their children or send them to school (currently Cambodia is 60% illiterate). Many children become beggars, criminals, or end up stealing or fighting for food. Even worse, are the children who have lost their parents due to landmines, crime or AIDS. Most of these children are forced to look for food in garbage dumps or starve. They have no opportunity for education and end up sleeping out on the streets. Thus, there are few countries in the world with a greater need to have its underprivileged children supported.

New facilities :
Due to this unfortunate reality, the NCCLA was created by Neth Lay, the owner of the Veiyo Tonle Restaurant. The NCCLA provides poor and orphaned children with a safe place to live, food, clothes, medicine, and a proper education. Since its inception in November 2004, the orphanage has made great progress in providing a good life for these previously starving kids. In 2005 the children started attending public school, studying English, and learning traditional Khmer dance. In 2006 the children were moved from a rented one room space to a newly purchased and renovated two floor location with two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a play area, and a class room. Also, four computers were recently installed so that the kids can learn computer technology and software.

"Meeting with Michael changed the way I think about helping others in turmoil overseas. I used to think, what about our own social problems with the homeless? I came to the conclusion that I am lucky to live in a country that provides some form of welfare assistance and shelter can be provided. For these children this is not the case. While sitting with Michael I listened to horror stories of children living in rubbish dumps surviving on what little nutrition they could find. Now living in their own "House" and supported by generous business and private donations these children have a chance at a better life and a positive future". - Wayne Davis.
